CPR and First Aid clases at the American Red Cross?

So how does the whole CPR and First Aid classes at the American Red Cross thing work? Like what kinds of things do they teach you? And what does First Aid and CPR certification allow you to do that people without certification cannot?

I applaud your interest in First Aid and CPR. As a paramedic, I have seen first-hand what a difference the general public can make in the survivability of my patients if care is rendered prior to my arrival.

There are two generally accepted organizations that offer CPR/First Aid classes: The Red Cross and the American Heart Association. Either organization will teach you important skills that could someday make a huge difference in someone's life. If you are looking at pursuing a higher level of medical training, I would recommend an American Heart Association course, as they are more often accepted as the standard for healthcare professionals.

Keep in mind that becoming certified in CPR doesn't really "allow" you to do anything more, it simply gives you a better understanding of what to do in an emergency than the untrained person would know. It also doesn't "require" you to act, should an emergency present itself. Many people have the fear that if they learn CPR, then they are required to perform it and perform it correctly if the situation arises. This is not true. However, most people who have received the training would have an ethical responsibility to act, and would act accordingly.

If you're not certain whether or not to take the course, I would strongly encourage you to. I've taught CPR to people who have gone on to save lives with their skill.

which is better to get first aid/cpr certification from? AHA, or ARC?

ive been getting certified by the red cross for the past few years, but im thinking of switching to the american heart association. what do u think?

Since the AHA doesn't offer first aid, I'd have to say that you should do ARC. There are other groups out there that teach, that are not ARC. Look in your phone book. I'm not a fan of ARC first aid, but they do the basics okay. There used to be a course called Medic First aid that taught what I thought was better first aid. But thats just my opinion...I could be wrong!

american red cross club project ideas?

Hi all. I am brainstorming for activity ideas for my american red cross club in my high school. My club can not make fundraisers because it's against school rules. And we are already going to do a blood drive. Already wrote letters to soldiers, made cards for the senior citizens and hospital patients and made sandwiches for the poor. What could we do which is more interactive and interesting? I've contacted a senior citizen center which might not work out. I have a group of more than 60 members in the club. What are some safe projects other clubs had done? It would be great to interact with people and their problems more than just making cards and having constant parties. There should be another purpose for this club because I want to raise leaders out of it. The Blood drive is a long time away and we are prepared for it already.but what could we do this spring? Got any more ideas?

It would help a lot. =]

And if i would like to invite a professional to teach our members CPR and first aid basics how could i do that? I know that we'd need certificates but would it be possible for trainers to come in and teach all of us and help us get certifications? The club would be a lot more valuable then

The activities your Red Cross club has done should be applauded. If your members were interested, they could do a community clean up event. I was hoping to implement this book donation project at my school. Perhaps you could do it as well?
And your Red Cross Chapter should be able to help you out in finding a CPR instructor if you ask nicely enough. Best of luck.

I really stress the book donations. Here are some good organizations to check out:

You seem competitive for all of them, I think. A few bad grades do not necessary knock you out--it depends on when you got them (which year). It might, however, knock you out of scholarship contention. But you sound fine, and be sure to have your parent(s) fill out the FAFSA form early, and be sure to apply early and identify other scholarships! Good luck.

Medical college?????

In my high school you can take a class called Allied Health. At the end of high school you leave with an American Red Cross CPR and first Aid Certification. I am wondering if that helps me to get into college if i want to be a family doctor or pharmisct. If so by how much does it help I also for pharm i might take the program were its right after college you go to a pharm school for 6 years, thats it. THX 4 all HELp!!!!

It will help you get into college, it will not help you get into medical/pharm school. They do not look at high school activities or grades.
