I donate blood several times a year. It seems to me that my blood is worth more than a financial donation because it saves people's lives. I don't think you can use it as a tax deduction, but I wanted to make sure.
No, as of now it is not considered a tax write off. However, there are others who agree that it should be, check out the link.

Yesterday I tried to donate blood for the Red Cross but was denied do I still get my red cross donor card so i can find out my blood type and how long will it take to receive my card? thanks for all the help
no- if you were denied
Is there any certificate or a receipt that Red Cross gives right after you donated a blood. Im trying to do an extra credit and I need some kind of prove this week :)
Thanks in advance
The donor card is mailed to you so you would not get that right away. You do, however, get a follow-up paper after every donation. It explains a ton of stuff about what to do if you bleed or bruise, and also several of the donation restrictions. It has a bar code sticker on it that matches up with your donation, so if you develop symptoms of illness in the next 24-48 hours that could make your blood unusable (or if you were pressured to donate at work when you really shouldn't have because you are hiv positive or something), then you can call them back with that ID number and they can destroy your blood so it is not given to a patient.
I believe this paper has your name on it, but I'm not sure. It definitely has the date of donation and the fact that you have the paper means that you did indeed complete the donation process (if you go in to donate but don't get through the screening process, you don't get the post-donation instruction sheet).
Even if you go in to donate blood and aren't actually able to donate (like maybe your iron is too low), you should still be allowed to get the extra credit (my opinion). If that happens, you could always ask the red cross worker to write a quick note saying that you did indeed attempt to donate.

my school is having a blood drive and i kinda want to give.... but i have a few questions...
1.i think my blood type is AB- but im not sure.... will they check?
2. i am 5'4" and i fluctuate between 108 and 112 pounds... today its 110..... can i donate?
3. what is it like to donate? painful? terrifying? long and uncomfortable? does it leave you weak?
sorry about all the questions, and thanks for helping me out!
1] yes they check the blood type - but not on site. they will send you a card in the mail
2] you must weigh 110 pounds to be able to 'spare' a pint of blood.
DON'T donate if you are not consistent;ly over 110.
3] the needle is a big one, so insertion is uncomfortable. But then it is not painful.
4] If you eat well the day off, and drink lots of non-alcoholic fluids, you should feel fine.
5] Don't drink alcohol the night before - it is a mild diuretic, and is the only time I ever felt 'bad' afterwards.
is it possible that too much THC in your body will show
up on the test that you have HIV? and if it says you have
HIV in the letter the red cross sent to you about your blood
being denied, should you go to the doctor to ACTUALLY see
if you have it? meaning, is there test accurate?
High THC levels will Not give you a false positive for an HIV test. If you got a letter saying your blood was denied because of HIV then you should definately go to your doctor for another test to confirm it. You also need to start medication therapy asap. The test from the red cross is usually accurate, again you should go get tested for confirmation.

Blood Drive to benefit Walla Walla community, Haiti » The Pioneer ...
Fifty-one Whitman students voluntarily surrendered a pint of their blood to the Red Cross on Tuesday, March 30, as part of the Cesar Chavez Blood Drive put on by the Global Awareness House. The blood will be used by hospitals in the greater Walla Walla area; any extra will be shipped to Haiti as part of the Red Cross’ ongoing relief efforts.
Global Awareness House RA Maharin Ahmed said she was motivated to organize the drive for a variety of reasons.
“Part of the expectation of the Global Awareness House is to raise awareness about different issues,” she said. “We decided that this is a good platform for us to help Haiti.”
The blood drive is also critical in that it will benefit the Walla Walla community.
“A lot of surgeries in Walla Walla are depending on this blood drive,” said Ahmed.
Levi Martin, the Red Cross Collections Operation supervisor for the drive, said he can’t guarantee that blood from this specific drive will go to Haiti. The Red Cross has been working to maintain adequate levels of blood at all of its blood centers. However, if a center has a surplus of a particular type of blood, that blood will be sent to Haiti.
