Is it legal for a USA dealer to ship a knife across the border into Ontario Canada? Will I get my knife?
Survival System

I live in Ontario Canada.
I want to buy a knife on ebay from an American company.
I don't know the laws and I don't want to throw my money away.
Does anybody know the laws concerning this?
Will knives make it across the border?
It isn't a switch blade or anything illegal like that.
It is an Ontario RTAK II, think a big jungle/survival knife.
Perfect for splitting wood and other camp craft.

i'm not sure on this. in the morning call the customs office and ask them.

What is the best fixed blade survival knife in your opinion?
Survival System

Regardless of price what is the best fixed blade survival knife for general purpose woodland survival? Kabar, Kershaw, Benchmade, Gerber, Cold Steel, Ontario, Fallkniven, SOG, Busse...etc? What make and model in your opinion? I want a full tang design. Please don't tell me a Rambo knife with compass and a hollow handle for holding fishing line and hooks. lol.

There is an endless debate what a survival knife should be, small utility blade or larger one that can take and dish out lots of punishment.

If you go with second definition, then Busse knives are probably on top of the list. Very tough, pretty much indestructible and unusually high wear resistance and edge holding for those types of knives.

I own (and owned) Busses, Cold Steels, Sogs, Benchmades and bunch of other fixed blades. The toughest are Busses for sure.
As for the Cold Steel tests I am very skeptical about those, because they void the warranty if you try to replicate the tests.

My vote for heavy duty blades goes to Busse or if you are on the budget then Swamp Rat knives(SRKW).

SRKW review - http://zknives.com/knives/fixed/srkw/ind ex.shtml

If you want something more exotic the kukris are also quite versatile and very tough use knives.

Those are the knives that you can cut, chop and pry with.

For more utility type knives benchmade Nimravus is pretty good and not too expensive.
Fallkniven A1 is also quite tough knife from decent steel VG-10.

Cold Steel SRK was a good knife in older version of Carbon V steel. new ones are not as good unfortunately. Though, nowhere near to Busse or SRKW in heavy duty use.

All of those knives are full tang design.

Okay, so I've been thinking of getting a really nice knife. I've been looking around for awhile and got it narrowed down to these three...

The Ka-Bar 2-1212-3

The Gerber 22-41121 Prodigy

And the Ontario Spec Plus Air-Force Survival Knife

I'm leaning towards the Ka-Bar, but I wanna ask people who've owned one or more of these knives what they think.

Thanks

I carried a Ka-Bar similar to the one you are thinking about for the year I was in Vietnam. It served me well.

With 22 years active duty Air Force behind me you can be assured I have handled a couple of their survival knives. They look fine but you will notice no part of the blade is serrated. That is not an issue for me as I am capable of sharpening a knife but if you aren't maybe you should look elsewhere.

Now that I am a civilian again and buy my own stuff, I carry nothing but Gerber. It is a problem some times as I don't want the serrated blades but so far I have been able to fill my needs from the Gerber line up.

You have selected three fine tools, any one of which will serve you well. I suggest you get each one in your hand and feel it. That will be the deciding factor. Buy the one that becomes part of you. Hint: Hold the damn thing in both hands. If it feels awkward in either hand move on to the next one on the list.

Cheers

Would Canadians watch this American movie?
Ontario Knives TAK-1 vs. Gerber LMF 2 survival knives.

The movie will be called "It's not that cold here, really." and it will be an American comedy produced by ME!

The movie will be about a dumb American gangster from New Jersey who decides to leave his gang town and visit a more peaceful place called....Canada.

He decides to travel to Toronto in mid-July and his family talks him out of it telling him "it's VERY COLD in Canada, it's a freezing cold country!" So he rebelliously drives to New York/Ontario border with 16 North Face jackets, a survival kit, a battery generator to heat the car, a 4-week supply of emergency food, a portable stove, 16 containers of mosquito repellent, a hunting knife. And a guide to survivng Polar attacks in the arctic wilderness. And emergency bottles of water, emergency toilet paper, for his summer trip to Toronto, Ontario. He's an idiot.

He gets to the Canada border and they ask him where he's going!!!! He says "Toronto for the July weekend."

Customs official: What have you brought here???? 16 jackets, emergency supplies, bear repellant????

Guy: Because my friend said it's FREEZING COLD in Canada.

Customs official gets skeptical because he thinks perhaps this guy is planning to stay the winter, either that or hide out. And overstay his welcome and not plan on leaving the country. They keep him at the border for a few days.

The guy starts USING his survival kit food and water to feed himself while sitting in the immigration customs office. Just to give him what he asked for, they purposely put the AC on 10 degrees celsius so he can freeze inside the immigration and customs building.

He ends up being held over in the border office until the weekend is over, so they tell him to make a U-turn and USA customs will take it from there.

They say "I hope you enjoyed your stay. Next time, do some research before you plan a trip to Toronto."

It would be pretty funny.
Or you can make it where they do let him into Toronto and then it just so happens the city experiences a black-out like a few summers ago, and the guy thinks it's ALWAYS like that
You know? I've been in MANY Canadian cities. Intentionally, the last place I want to visit in Canada, after I see all the other provinces including the maritimes, is TORONTO.
Isn't this fascinating? See everything except Toronto, and then Finally.....Toronto.
Edit Dangerma: Definitely would put you in the credits. The thing though is going straight north by road, you can't go much farther than Kapuskasing. Or the road to James Bay. The only opportunity to drive FAR north is to go west of Edmonton. Unless of course you fly

do they actually keep people there for a whole weekend??! if he doesn't even make it into Canada, that would be kindof anti climactic wouldn't it.
the idea is funny, I've seen people in August with skiis strapped to their roof looking for mountains.

If he were to make it in though, which they probably would let him in, they'd be laughing that's for sure. But it would be funny if he just kept his mindset that toronto is some sort of wilderness after seeing it and just took everything the wrong way. Like a beavertail stand or something. Blackout's like the one several years ago are extreemly uncommon.

I'm just wondering, are you canadian and have you been to toronto?
