Which knife is better?
Ontario RAT 7 at work

I'm looking to purchase an all-purpose 'survival knife'. Is this a good choice?

What would I be sacrificing if I went with more of a combat-style knife like this one...

thanks in advance!

The EK has the better blade design but both, in my opinion, lack a suitable handle. Being of wood, and are relatively narrow, might be hard to hold if wearing gloves or if hands are cold and wet. Find something with a wider handle, either of leather or composite. I don't totally agree with a smaller blade but you really don't want one any larger. It should be large and heavy enough to cut large enough trees or brush to build a lean-to shelter if needed but small enough to skin game.

You can look at this, too. It think it fits with the style you might be looking for.

I like the KA1273. Good handle and sheath. Hope this helps.
